The copyright in a music composition lives for many years after the composer has died. The number of years varies from country to country, but is generally 50 to 75 years from the death of the composer. Even then, one cannot merely use a recording of that music as they wish. There are at least two copyright interests in every musical recording: copyright in the composition words and tune, as well as copyright in the recording. The copyright in the recording never expires.
